How to Unclog Your Shower in Seconds

The shower is an essential part of any home. In fact, it is one of the most commonly used appliances. For this reason, it is important that the shower remains in good working condition. If you find that your shower is suddenly not functioning as it should, it could be due to a malfunction. The most common reason for shower malfunctions is clogging. Fortunately, it is an easy fix. Here is how to unclog your shower.

  1. Inspect Your Drain

When you notice that your shower is draining slower than usual, you need to turn the water off and inspect the drain. A shower drain clogged with hair and bath toys is quite common. Remove all possible blockers and run the water to see whether the clogging has cleared. If it’s still clogged and you cannot see any visible blockages, use a flashlight to inspect the deeper parts of the drain. There is a chance that the clogging is occurring as a result of dirt build-up inside the drain.

  1. Removing the Drain Cover

It is possible to detach some shower drains by hand. Simply pull it out and inspect the drain. There are other drain covers that need to be unscrewed. In this case, a screwdriver will come in handy. Once you remove the cover, check through the drain to see if there are any clogs or blocked pipes.  A plumber snake can be used to get rid of any dirt or residue causing the blockage.

  1. Using A Plunger `

If the drain is blocked and there is water collected around the drain, a plunger can come in handy. It will dislodge the clog and also help to drain the water. If the water is too much, you may consider scooping some of it manually into a bucket before you start using the plunger. It will be harder to use a plunger in the shower than it is to use in a sink or toilet. Even so, it can help to drain the water. Thereafter, you can use a snake to unclog the drain.

  1. Use Hot Water

Sometimes a clogged shower drain is caused by collected grease and scum. When this happens, the effectiveness of water draining is affected. If this is the case with your shower, you can pour very hot water into the drain. This will melt the debris away and unclog your drain. You can pour hot water several times to ensure that the scum and debris are completely washed away and don’t attach to the drain again.

  1. Mixing Baking Soda and Vinegar

These are the most commonly used cleaning agents in any home. Simply pour the baking soda mixture inside the drain, preferably after using the hot water. Wait for a few minutes and then follow up with a few cups of vinegar. This mixture will start to bubble and unclog your drain.

  1. Calling A Plumber
